A House Renewed, A Brotherhood Strengthened

The most significant transformation of the chapter house in years — an investment not simply in a building, but in the brothers who call it home.

The Lambda Chi Alpha house in Fresno has recently undergone one of its most significant transformations in years—an investment not simply in a building, but in the undergraduate brothers who call it home and the future of Iota-Gamma Zeta.

Financed by the Iota Gamma House Corporation and with construction directed by alumnus Wayne Scholes (Iota Gamma 619), approximately a quarter of a million dollars has been invested in refurbishing and modernizing the chapter house. The result is a more comfortable, functional, secure, and modern home while preserving the history and traditions that have connected generations of Iota-Gamma brothers.

For the undergraduate members living in the house today, the difference is something they experience every day.

Among the most significant improvements is a completely renovated and expanded kitchen. The new kitchen includes an industrial stove and sink, microwaves, air fryers, expanded refrigerator and freezer capacity, and designated storage for each live-in member.

Daily life has been improved throughout the house. A new laundry room includes two high-speed washers and dryers. Upgraded storage systems provide additional organization. Fresh interior and exterior paint has renewed the appearance of the property, while improvements to the chapter room have created a refreshed gathering place for meetings, events, and brotherhood.

Technology and security have also been modernized. A new business-level Wi-Fi network is integrated and meshed throughout the house, providing reliable connectivity for studying, working, and everyday use. An upgraded security system includes cameras and keypad locks at house entrances and on every bedroom.

But some of the most meaningful improvements are less about convenience and more about connecting today's chapter with its past.

The new Joe Koontz Library honors a brother whose service to Iota-Gamma spanned generations. Koontz served on the House Corporation for 39 years and received Lambda Chi Alpha’s Order of Merit in 1982. Today, the library provides undergraduate brothers with a dedicated place to study while also serving as a reminder of the alumni whose commitment helped sustain the chapter.

The library area also includes a new trophy case and newly installed composite frames, creating a prominent place to display the accomplishments, photographs, and history of Iota-Gamma.

That connection may ultimately be the most important part of the renovation.

The improvements represent an investment by one generation of Lambda Chi Alpha brothers in the next. Through the commitment of Wayne Scholes, the Alumni Control Board, and the alumni who contributed their time, resources, and support, today's members have a better place to live, study, gather, and build brotherhood.

The house may look different today, but what it represents remains unchanged: a home for brotherhood—and a connection between the generations of Lambda Chi Alpha men who have called Iota-Gamma their own.
