If you are considering Lambda Chi Alpha, this is what you need to know.
We recruit year-round. There is no single week in which you have to decide, and no semester in which the door is closed. If the fit is right, the timing is yours. However, we also participate in the traditional rush weeks at the start of each semester. Regardless of your timing, below are the reasons why you should rush Lambda Chi Alpha.
1. Associate Membership
Lambda Chi Alpha does not have pledges. In 1972, it became the first national fraternity to abolish pledging outright, and it replaced the pledge with the associate member.
An associate member wears the letters, sits in chapter meetings, holds office, and votes on chapter business from the week he joins. The one thing he does not vote on is the Ritual itself, which he takes part in at initiation. There is no probationary year, because there is no probationary class to spend it in.
2. Brotherhood
Brotherhood at Lambda Chi Alpha begins on day one, and it begins with mutual respect. An associate member is a brother from the moment he accepts a bid; he is welcomed, included, and expected to take a real part in the chapter.
That standard is held up by the initiated brothers. More is expected of a man who has been through initiation, not less. He is held to the standards of the Fraternity — loyalty, duty, respect, service, honor, integrity, and personal courage — and he is expected to live up to them in front of the men who have just joined.
3. Strong Alumni Support
What has most consistently distinguished Lambda Chi Alpha at Fresno State is what its alumni do when the chapter needs them.
This summer, approximately a quarter of a million dollars was invested in refurbishing and modernizing the chapter house, financed by the Iota Gamma House Corporation with construction directed by alumnus Wayne Scholes (Fall 1977). A rebuilt kitchen, a laundry room, a refreshed chapter room, business-grade Wi-Fi, cameras outside, and keypad locks on every bedroom door — and the Joe Koontz Library, holding the chapter's charter, its composites, and the plaques of its Order of Merit recipients.
An undergraduate chapter cannot finance a project on that scale, and this one did not. That is what strong alumni support looks like in practice: mentors, introductions, men across California who will take your call because you wear the same letters — and a house that is better than the one they lived in.
What it costs
These are the costs for Fall 2026; they are reviewed each term.
Associate member — $850 for Fall 2026. $615 is due October 5, and a $235 initiation fee is due on the first day of I-Week.
Initiated brother — $800 for Fall 2026, due October 5.
Housing is separate. Living in the chapter house is billed separately, and dues do not include it. Dues also do not cover formals or other chapter events, which are paid for as they come up. Ask us for current housing rates, and we will share that with you.
